Objectify

Why are textures missing after a 3D import?

Missing textures usually mean the importer cannot find an image, cannot resolve a material, or does not support the source shader. Check file paths and material slots before regenerating the mesh. OBJ often uses sidecars; GLB can embed resources; FBX imports may need material setup. A higher Objectify plan does not repair broken texture references.

Choose the right starting point

First distinguish missing geometry from missing surface data. If the silhouette imports correctly but the model is plain or unexpectedly shaded, inspect materials and image references. The same mesh can render differently under another shader or lighting setup. Diagnose the handoff before paying for a new generation that may repeat the same problem.

Work through the handoff

Inspect the imported material slots and image references in the receiving tool. Check that sidecar files were delivered with stable names and paths. Verify that a material-capable viewport mode is active. Reconnect one base-color map first, then roughness, metallic, and normal data. Compare each change rather than replacing every setting at once.

Limitations and failure cases

A successfully loaded image can still use the wrong color space, channel, or normal orientation. Proprietary shader graphs may require reconstruction even when texture files exist. GLB can include external resources, so the extension alone does not prove a fully self-contained handoff. Importer and render-pipeline versions affect supported features.

Acceptance checklist

Move the complete asset folder into a clean test location and import again. Confirm every expected image resolves without searching unrelated folders. Compare material names and UV placement with the source. Record the missing path or unsupported shader feature so the fix can be repeated. Do not regenerate unless the original material content itself is wrong.
